Big thanks to Jimmy from Head Underwater for sharing Lia Ices a few days back. Her sophomore album, Grown Unknown came out on Jagjaguwar on Jan 25th and only after a few tracks I’m really into this lady. Everything about her is naturally radiant; she’s gorgeous, she sings in a tone that sounds native and whispy, over sharp claps and guest vocals from the forefather of elegant falsetto, Justin Vernon.
There are parts of her that lead me to comparisons like Glasser, and Warpaint- but she’s far more natural. Her vocals flutter over plucked strings and piano keys with a certain precision, as if it were her own instrument, best known to most notable Brooklyn-based female songwriters these days (ala Sharon Van Etten..)
