As of today, we’ll be introducing you to the artists that will be playing our Silver Series at SXSW. What better way to kick this off than to introduce you to Austin natives- The Strange Boys. I fell in love with them when they came out with ‘the Strange Boys and Girls club’, and then ‘Be Brave’ the following year. I watched them a few times at last year’s NXNE music festival and realized that these were just kids. Straight-faced kids plucked straight out of the 50s with their scruffed up brand of rock & roll, jaded and tired in their small bodies. Like their voices had been through it all, and they’d seen everything young people need to see.
They play songs that were made for dark dive bars, where people still like to dance they way they used to, swaying their hips provocatively, pretending to know the moves their mothers and fathers once made with their feet. It’s a glimpse into the gritty rockabilly days, when it meant more to be a little braver. Excited to have them on board for our series. Check em’ out at 12:45 on Wednesday, March 16.
